Hair Restoration with PRP Injections and Microneedling

Microneedling and PRP injections have emerged as a powerful combination in the quest for stimulating hair growth, particularly in the scalp.

Microneedling and PRP injections have emerged as a powerful combination in the quest for stimulating hair growth, particularly in the scalp.  Microneedling essentially opens channels directly to your hair follicles so that the PRP can stimulate and heal your hair follicles, and most importantly, encourage hair growth. Your body's healing response to the micro wounds acts like a turbo charge for the PRP.

What is PRP (platelet-rich plasma)?

Platelet-rich plasma consists of two elements: plasma, or the liquid portion of blood, and platelets a type of blood cell that plays an important role in healing throughout the body. Platelets are well-known for their clotting abilities, but they also contain growth factors that can trigger cell reproduction and stimulate tissue regeneration or healing in the treated area. Platelet-rich plasma is simply a concentration of the platelets and growth.

To create platelet-rich plasma, our clinicians take a blood sample from the patient and place it into a device called a centrifuge that rapidly spins the sample, separating out the other components of the blood from the platelets and concentrating them within the plasma.

After creating platelet-rich plasma from a patient’s blood sample, that solution is injected into the target area. The idea is to increase the concentration of specific bioproteins or hormones, called growth factors, in the scalp area to accelerate the healing process and hair growth.

Recommended three to six treatments once a month initially then two sessions per year for maintenance.  This treatment also pairs with our Keravive Hydrofacial Scalp Therapy.

Research shows:

  • Slows down hair shedding

  • Increases the thickness of hair follicles

  • Stimulates new hair growth

  • Keeps hair in the growing cycle longer

  • Microneedling creates micro-injuries, stimulating collagen production and enhancing blood circulation. PRP, rich in growth factors, is applied to the treated area, promoting tissue regeneration and stimulating dormant hair follicles.

  • Generally, microneedling with PRP is considered safe for various hair types and skin tones. However, it's crucial to consult with a professional to assess your individual suitability and discuss potential risks.

  • The number of sessions varies, but many individuals start seeing results after a few sessions. A personalized treatment plan, determined by a healthcare professional, will consider factors like the extent of hair loss and individual response to the procedure.

  • Discomfort during microneedling is usually minimal, as a topical anesthetic is applied to numb the scalp. Some individuals may experience mild redness or swelling post-treatment, which typically subsides within a few days.

  • While individual results vary, many people experience sustained improvements in hair thickness and density. Maintenance sessions may be recommended to optimize and prolong the results over time.

  • Common side effects include temporary redness, swelling, or mild discomfort. Serious side effects are rare but should be discussed with your healthcare provider during the consultation.
